“Is the river safe for my family?” is a question that we get asked often. The answer is yes, but let’s talk about it a bit more.
The Kern River offers a range of different sections that can thrill and excite all experience levels. As we know, all experiences are better shared, but it’s always best to understand the limitations of your kids, family or friends. Our number one priority is always to provide a safe adventure on the Kern, and safety and fun go hand in hand out on the river! So which rafting trip best suits your group?
Some things to consider when deciding which trip your group should take are age, fitness and experience levels, and length of the trip. Are your youngsters old enough for the trip? Has anyone in your group gone rafting before? Are you physically fit for the demands of rafting? How long do you want to be out on the water? Although there are a few different variations of each tour offered at Sierra South, here is a break-down in the class of rapids and age restrictions.
Class II-III Lickety Split
Age 6 and up
Class II-III Lower Kern
Age 8 and up
Class IV Lower & Upper Kern
Age 12 and up
Class V
Upper Kern
Age 16 and up
